Elephant Rock has an array of technical, smeary bouldering and toprope problems.
The system used in the climbing guidebook Rock Deluxe South (2nd edition) has been used to denote names of problems. Other guidebooks use different names so be careful when entering climbs in logbooks.
Good topo here (please note that this uses a different map and numbering system to Rock Deluxe South).
The rocks are a tourist attraction, particularly The Elephant, and so there are usually lots of non-climbing visitors at the crag. There is a drop toilet on the way in to the climbing.
This crag is within 30 minutes of Oamaru on the South Island and is a 2 minute walk from the road. There is obvious parking opposite the crag, from which the crag is also signposted (it is something of a tourist attraction).
Open access at the moment (2010) but it is privately owned land so please be considerate.
There are no comments from visitors to this crag. |
