Crag features

A Great bouldering venue that is well worth a visit if you are in the North Island.

Many Limestone boulders surrounding private farmland, although access is easy as the farmers are very kind. The Limestone boulders have a dark covering and can give suprising friction even in warmer weather. One of the best features is the Grot View Cave which is a big limestone cave giving some amazing problems with true lines.

Good topo here.

Approach notes

10km past the famous Waitomo Caves on the Te Anga road. Immediately past Hauturu road is a driveway on the right to Awatiro/Stubbs farm. Go through and drive up past the buildings on your right to park off the track before the airstrip.

No Access Issues

At present permission must be obtained from the farm managers Ben and Bex Stubbs: 021315796 or 078787426.

Worth checking crag info and downloadable guide from here http://www.thecrag.com//climbing/new-zealand/waikato/area/190687545 and printing before going. Stunning venue, follow instructions to phone the land owners before going, and drop $5 in the tin at the top of the driveway before entering.

A Really cool crag with lots of different styles, slabs, caves/roof vertical walls, highballs. I could have spent 2weeks thier but I had to leave within a few hours! I will be back oneday to complete Franks Route which pumped me out too much so I couldn't do it. And also the V10 will get ticked!
