Crag features

The two climbing sites of the Serra de Montejunto are situated around 4km from each other. Located on a somewhat high point and with shade until the beginning of the afternoon, the walls of Montejunto are great for the hottest days of the year, and can even be surprisingly cold when the summer northerly wind blows or when it becomes misty.

Approach notes

From Lisbon, take the A1 northbound to Alenquer/Carregado and then take the N1 towards Alenquer. After driving past the village, follow the road but, a few kms after, be aware of the crossroads ahead signposted to Abrigada (N1-4). From here, follow the Rua Francisca Gorjão first and then a country road to Pragança. Keep going uphill and the Montejunto Velho sector will show up on the LEFT-HAND side. For Montejunto Novo, keep going up to a road fork then turn right and downhill for about a kilometre and the crag is up on the left.

An alternative way which might be quicker is the A8 to Torres Vedras and then the N115-2 through Sarge and Maxial until a rounadbout where take the N115 up the hill to Vila Verde dos Francos. On entering this village a road (signposted Montejunto turns off left up another hill and leads up to Montejunto Nova and after that to the fork near the campsite when Velho is just down th hill (this time on the Right hand side)

Restricted Access

There is a bird ban on Montejunto Velho from Jan to August. This is, apparently, contentious; but there is an enormous sign to that effect below the crag. There are certainly birds of prey in residence - peregrines and buzzards.
