Crag features

These are the first Chew Valley crags most climbers see when they approach from Stalybridge or Oldham. As quickly as they are seen, they are dismissed. This is a great advantage to the lover of secluded, clean quarry climbing with great views. After you've done with the roped climbing, there are acres of fine bouldering on the moor around the quarries.

These are sheltered quarries that get the afternoon and evening sun. The rock is generally clean and solid, especially the Front Right Quarry. Some of the corner lines are likely to be damp after periods of rain.

Approach notes

Limited parking is available directly below the quarries on Knowl Top Lane adjacent to Knowl Top Farm. Once parked respectfully, take the signed, walled path towards the war memorial to a gate and a bench. Continue uphill, then leftwards towards the spoil at the entrance of the Front Right Quarry, about 15 mins. An approach can also be made from the Binn Green car park combined with a visit to Alderman Rocks.

There are plenty of additional routes & problems recorded in the new Over The Moors guidebook.

Not a bad place, although some of the landings are a bit iffy. One of those places where you have to walk about a bit to find the best bits. Plenty of opps for those with a bit of time to kill. Best on a bright warm day.
