Mark Glaister on the first pitch of Archangel (HVS) at Black Head © Bridget Glaister

Crag features

The coast from Cadgwith to Coverack offers little for the climber. The slabby areas of Beagle Point and Treleaver look tempting but are a touch disappointing. Black Head, however, offers a different kind of climbing that is in pleasant contrast to the rest of the Lizard area.

Approach notes

Park at the National Trust car park at Treleaver Farm and follow the coast path to the different sectors.

Much easier to approach by abseil. From the lookout, follow the crest of the ridge until it drops away to seaward. Drop down a vague spur on the right (facing out) to reach the top of a broad gully on the left. A jammed boulder gives a convenient anchor for a 45m abseil to to the Waterslide.
