This is a seriously large valley and has cliffs that face in all directions. The Grose River flows in a generally east direction till it flows out onto the plains west of Sydney, clibs are on both sides of the valley. This means you can find shelter from the sun in summer and find it to warm yourself in winter The marker on the map is pretty close to the upper end of the valley. The rock is sandstone and can vary from iron hard to crumbly nonsense, oh and most of the long routes pass a shale and at some point. Trad and sports routes exist, the older bolted routes require portable bolt brackets, which can be bought at climbing shops locally.
Per the 2010 guide - this is more correctly referred to as The Fortress (Tom Thumb) and Mount Hay (Margarine Ridge)
