Sunneplättli, near Luzern © Mike Meysner

Crag features

This UKC crag now includes all the Gersauer Klettergärten listed in the SAC Zentralschweizer Voralpen Nordost guidebook, not only the most popular of these, Sunneplättli, which is the only crag in Plaisir Ost 2015. A lot of the crags have a stunning view over the Lake of Lucerne and to the mountains beyond, and most have a sunny aspect (Schattenwandli excluded). The approach to the crags can be steep and a bit exposed, likewise the crag base. Single pitches.

Sunneplättli: Excellent (steepish) slab climbing, in a beautiful sunny setting. Plaisir Ost 2015 has 22 climbs up to 6a+, Zentralschweizer Voralpen Nordost has 27 climbs with a few harder ones up to 7b.

Schattenwändli: West facing and slow to dry.

Basilland: [not visited by moderator]

Tridwand: South-east facing, steep climbs, exposed crag base with cables and belays.

Laurinwand A: [not visited by moderator]

Laurinwand B: 2 climbs on a pillar, with difficult approach.

Graslaui: South facing with some interesting climbs of varied angle, crag base at top of v.steep grassy slope with cables and belays.

Approach notes

Sunneplättli: From the hairpin bend at pt.751 north east of Gersau, follow the easterly-most path for c.250m where a large cairn indicates the start of the steep, scrambly climbers path to the crag. The nearest parking is on the west side of the road after the last hairpin bend below pt.751.

Graslaui: head east on the path from pt. 751 and go past the turn off to Sunneplättli, until just before the path turns north through a brief cutting after 675m. Find the point of least resistance on the steep slope to the north and head up, slightly less steeply, through trees and grassland to the crag, 5 min.

Laurinwand B: On the same path from pt. 751 continue past the exit to Graslaui, through the cutting and past the steel net on the left. Just after this head up the steep forest and try and find the climbs, with some exposure.

Tridwand: Park at one of the hairpins on the road east of Sellen and take the path heading east at the far edge of the meadow to the right of the road at the second hairpin. As the path heads into the trees a climbers path on the right heads down to the crag.
