Andy Wallace going the wrong way on War Wall Woof (5a), Frankland Crag, Durham © ablackett
This crag is situated in woodland just beside the River Wear. The rock is somewhat friable and care should be taken, but for people without transport in Durham city this crag is a good option for a few hours fun and games!
Details of some of the routes first recorded in 2005 can be found here
http://www.climbonline.co.uk/frankland_crag.htm
Other lines were first recorded in 2009, through the holly bush to the right of the "peace wall".
It is a bit of a bushwacking experience to get here either by going through the farmers field (probably trespass, don't do it) or along the river from the north (quite overgrown and hard work). However you get there you will probably need a map, it is marked on the 1:25000 as Kepier Quarry (dis).
I remember footling around here back in 1999/2000 - it always seemed like a damp, dank place. But good fun nonetheless! Tubroos! - 21/May/10 |

I prefer crags where the rock stays attached and goggles aren't necessary. On the plus it's in walking distance! Hoebag - 30/Sep/09 |
