Chaine du Grand Travers © Adrian Berry

Crag features

This chain comprises two separate crags. On the left is the Rocher du Cayron and on the right is the Rocher Ecole also sometimes known as the Rocher Grand Travers.

Rocher Ecole is a generally easy-angled and sunny crag. Popular with school groups etc so a bit polished and often very busy at weekends.

Approach notes

Rocher du Cayron - there is a small parking place a little way up the gravel road that leads to the Col du Cayron from the Gigondas side and a little further up the hill there is an obvious track on the left that leads steeply to the right-hand side of the crag.

Rocher Ecole - just over the summit of the Col du Cayron (going east) there is a left fork that leads to a parking area just under the crag.

PLEASE NOTE, ACCESS BY CAR INTO THE DENTELLES IS NOW BANNED PERMANENTLY, AS AGAINST SEASONALLY AS BEFORE;

A nice little crag for ticking off green and orange spot routes with plenty of shade for belaying. However, be aware the Rockfax guide is out as far as the height/length of the routes goes. We had a 60m rope that just about got us down from some routes whereas the guidebook only indicates 20m as the maximum height if the crag.
