Crag features

Dovestones Skyline consists of a number of interesting buttresses in a wild setting. Two main areas are described here - Duck Stones and Charnel Stones.

The charming Duck Stones are situated on the edge of the moor overlooking Dovestones Reservoir. It is rare to meet another climber up here, but if you do, you know you'll both be looking for, and finding, a unique moorland experience. It is hard to say whether this is mainly a bouldering area with some routes, or a climbing area with a ton of great wild bouldering. Whatever you decide, you'll love it.

Clearly visible, the Charnel Stones rise steeply out of a small coomb, well below the moor's edge. It was formed by an ancient landslip which left the jumbled landscape below.

The rock is fairly smooth for natural gritstone. Due to a lack of traffic, the routes can be gritty, but this can be quickly remedied with a soft brush. There can be a tendency for peaty looseness at the tops of some of the routes and a feeling of seriousness beyond their modest height.
