Crag features
Combe Obscure is a sweet little climbing spot consisting of easy-angled slabs of flawless grey rock. There are the odd hard routes in amongst the friendlier grades, but they will feel very technical at this angle.
The cliffs are sheltered, and get the morning and midday sun. Seepage is unlikely to be a problem. The left crag gets the sun for longer than the right one.
Approach notes
Combe Obscure lies midway between Malaucène and Bédoin, off the D19. From Malaucène head south on the D938, turning left onto the D19 in the direction of Bédoin. After a few kilometres, you reach La Madeline. On a sharp bend in the road, a rough track, indicated by a yellow walking sign, leads off to the left. Drive a little way up the track and park at the end near an abandoned brick building. Don't leave anything valuable in the car! Walk past the building and continue in the same direction, following a coarse gravel track for about fifteen minutes until you reach the two crags.
| Great crag, well certainly the left side that we visited is, except for the wasps that fly all over the place and dont leave you alone all day, got stung about 20 mtrs up one route, theres no gettin away from the buggers, this was in August, so i guess a bit later or earlier in the year when the wasps are gone its probably a nicer place to be..
Parking is easy, just follow the crap track right to the end, it'll open up into a smallish parking area, 8 to 10 cars, park up then keep on a small track across a field going in the same direction as you come in with the car youll then see the small house as described in the rockfax guide, continue straight on, on a small rocky path..dont be fooled by the other abandoned house and likely looking crag to the left of the car track.. fatbuoybazza - 24/Aug/10 |
