Hill features

Hunter's Stones is a collection of boulders in Stainburn forest, not far from Almscliff in North Yorkshire. The biggest boulder is under the trig point.

The best climbing here is in the higher grades with Wavelength, Hunter's Roof, and the problems on the X-Wall being of excellent quality. However, there is a good circuit of easier problems here which stay clean and are well worth a visit. At any grade, the pebbly nature of the rock is not for those who are thin of skin!

Since the publishing of the new Yorkshire Grit guide John Hunt has written up the Hut Block (next to the Trig Point boulder and visible from beneath Hunter's Roof) which gives an excellent place for beginners or those wanting a skin friendly warm up.

Updated this page now to be based on the definitive YMC guide. Yorkshire Gritstone Bouldering Vol2 still covers this crag and a number of other excellent venues in the area.
