Crag features

A great Lakeland crag, typifying the best that Borrowdale has to offer. The 'Adopt a Crag' mob from Keswick cleaned most of the classics in the last weekend of 2011.

Over 100m high. The best routes are Voyage(E3), Tumbleweed Connection(E2), Praying Mantis(E1), Footless Crow Direct(E6), Mirage(E5), Bitter Oasis (E4), DDT(HVS), Alone in Space(E1), Cursing Caterpillar(HVS), Manpower(E2), April Fool(VS).

Approach notes

25 minutes from Grange in Borrowdale.

Restricted Access

Seasonal Restrictions

Dates: 1 March to 30 June

Reason: Nesting Birds

No restriction. The birds have nested away from the main climbing area in recent years. Please keep a low profile in nesting season - if you see the birds we would welcome any information.

Abseil is possible with 50m ropes from the trees. They reach the ground on stretch. If in doubt, abseil to th tree of Mantis, and continue abseiling from there. Tat looks good.

Unnamed and Midsummer at the oasis have had a couple of ascents in the last month and are quite good. They do seem to share the start though. Trojan Horse upper pitch has had a few ascents and is been recommended.
