Crag features

Numerous basalt crags scattered around Crest Lake on the west boundary of Strathcona Park make up the area of Crest Creek Crags. For years this area was a backwater of local climbing with only a handful of routes on the more accessible bluffs. Within the last few years however development has skyrocketed with over two hundred routes established to date. There are both trad and sport routes, along with a large amount of aid routes. There are two main areas - Old Crest Creek (mostly North of the highway, and including the Pump and Sluice Walls), and New Crest Creek, south of Crest Lake. These are serviced by an extensive and high quality trail network. Many of the trad routes feature occasional bolts to reduce the severity of runouts.

Approach notes

There are two main parking areas. The main parking area is next to the river and features a toilet. There is a small pullout just past the bridge if coming from the East. This is better for Pump/Sluice walls and Old Crest Creek.

There is a second parking area reached by a small gravel road that runs alongside the highway (turnout signposted well before the bridge) that ends between Crest lake and Mud Lake. This is better for New Crest Creek.

No Access Issues

Please respect the posted regulations regarding fires, camping, parking and new route development when visiting Crest Lake.

There is an old pdf available online, with a guidebook being worked on at the moment. From the one carpark you access circa 20 crags. If the trail to a crag isn't obvious then it is highly likely that a crag has fallen into disuse e.g. Crag in the Woods. Joint and Sluice Walls are very good and there are more routes on them than the currently available pdf suggests.
