Crag features

This wild and beautiful cove has some striking features. Unfortunately, the cove is of limited appeal to climbers since much of the rock is decaying and there is serious erosion. Climbs have been recorded on the front faces of the prominent twin towers and the landward buttresses. These have somewhat better rock and offer a few stern challenges for the intrepid.

More recently (2019-20) routes have been added to the northern side of Porth Loe Cove.

Approach notes

From the car park in Porthwarra, take the road to the right, up the hill and through a gate. At the first left bend, carry straight-on along a footpath. Follow the approach as for Carn Barra to a point where the main coast path is joined by a secondary path coming from the left. Go back along the secondary path and follow a path downhill towards an obvious low point on the coast. The path skirts an area of reedy marsh to join the coast path above the eroded lip of Porth Loe Cove.

A gravelly break leads down to the boulder beach. The twin towers lie about 100m along the beach to the south.
