Jacks Canyon gives well-protected, year-round single pitch sport climbing in the desert. The rock is mainly limestone but in part sandstone as well, coming at all angles and across a wide range of grades from 5.6 to 5.desperate.
The climbing is on a number of cliffs facing in all directions. Seek shade in summer and sun in winter. Pockets, edges and jugs. Slabs, aretes and overhangs. Wild edible grapes grow in the canyon but beware of rattlesnakes, scorpions and poison ivy!
The easier routes are covered in the guidebook "Weekend Rock (Arizona) - Trad and Sport routes from 5.0 to 5.10a"
Located South of Winslow, AZ. Around 1.5 hours drive from Flagstaff or 2.5 hours from Phoenix. The canyon is hidden and is very remote. Make sure you have lots of water and plenty of petrol.
