Crag features

Old postcards show big arches where today there are only stacks; the sandstone here is not the most durable rock. In-situ gear is likely to be antique (i.e. useless), so go equipped. There are no belays on the summits so a see-saw descent abseil is necessary. Very serious climbing.

Approach notes

From Otterton, follow signs to Ladram Bay holiday village pay car park. The stack directly adjacent to the access ramp is Ladram Lady. The bases are accessible at low tide. For the five northern stacks, the small headland just north of Ladram Lady is a serious time-limiting constraint. A passage with dry feet is only really possible for an hour or so either side of low spring tide. Therefore, it is recommended to bring a 100m rope and some secateurs and abseil from a group of stunted trees into the wide sandy bay to the north of the Lost World stack. Alternatively, kayak to your climb.
