Approach notes

The crag is on Dallowgill Moor above Nidderdale at NGR SE 183710. Park at Harper Hill near the farm (giving consideration to the need for farm and shooting vehicles to access roads and parking) and follow a Land Rover track past the NIDDERDALE AONB access and info signs westwards taking the first right fork and continue parallel to and above the valley/woodland until the track ends near a line of grouse butts. Cross the stream and take a vague track up the other side to reach the left end of the main crag.  Closures for shooting are likely during August/September and will be listed on the Natural England website (link on main page).

Restricted Access

The majority of the crag is on access land (with the exception of the woodland section) but it is on an active grouse moor so check for temporary restrictions to open access. Dogs are not allowed year round.

The no parking signs have been removed and the farmer even waved (friendly way) at us on the way in. Cracking crag glad the access situation has improved

‘No parking’ signs near the farm led us to park a ten minute walk away so as to not agitate the land owner given others' comments about hostility earlier in the summer. Landowner approached us, asked us not to touch any of his traps as he said the last climbers to visit had 'smashed them up'. Reassured him we wouldn't be going near any of his traps. He later appeared on the landrover track while we we climbing near the wall. Shouted over "please keep out of the woods". We confirmed we would. As we left we saw him once more, he told us the woods get used for pheasant driving and to stay out. Also asked where we were from and told us about the traps being used to kill stoats to stop them harassing ground nesting birds. No suggestion from him that we weren't welcome, suspect visits during lockdown and possible interference with his traps had bothered him a bit. Think there's a need for people to be respectful to avoid further agitation.

Following the easing of the C19 Lockdown climbers have been challenged by the landowner and Go Home signs erected. Although the majority (not the woodland section) of the crag is on Access land it is suggested that visits are restricted until the situation is resolved.

People are not currently welcome here. I got aggressively screamed at for getting out my car to look at the big map confusingly showing me where the public right of way was...

First time visit. Simple walk in, short problems, excellent rock and landings....what's not to like?
