Crag features

A small slab of slightly flakey rock with an unusual concentration of low grade routes.
There has been some new routing recently, the details are below. The new routes have not been repeated to my knowledge, so grades are premiminary. If you have any more information let me know.
[Possibly going to be developed - see Somerset County Council planning application at http://tinyurl.com/3e4pao - this link no longer works - planning application has probably expired?]

Visited in Oct 21 very overgrown , difficult access to base of climbs, extremely friable rock would need major cleaning effort to improve quality and safety of routes. Not recommended. Such a shame as massive quarry with great looking walls.

Jan 27 2023 update.

There’s no longer access to this crag.

Hanson are re opening the quarry to extract limestone and it’s now fenced off with CCTV in place.

Approach notes

There are two lay bys just outside the entrance to the quarry with room for 4 or 5 cars.

Climbed there today and doesn't seem like much has changed. Overgrown, very loose on most climbs and the description doesn't give a clear idea on where the main crag actually is.. we never found it.. what has changed is the motocross. Today they were there all day, bbq going, all round the place with not a care in the world.

I agree with James' comments. I've climbed there a few times over Mar-Jul 2012 and will look into any development updates.

Access seems quite easy for walkers or pro-looking climbers, when we visited. Security guard vistis site from time to time, but is happy to let people climb as long as the look as if they know what there doing, and is happy to chat. Did not have problem with us clearng the main crag a bit as well. Thankfully he manages to keep the motocross croud out, but watch out for the odd mountain biker being chased out. overall the main slab 'funny names' as the A&C guidebook cals it is worth a visit for impoving climbers looking for a good day of D->S climbing with some good moves. The crag does still need some clearing as much of the protecting is fully of soil/plants. We have tried to clear out enought to make a safe climb on some routes, but the trees at the bottom could do with a prune - any help appreciatedas the security did not mind us walking out with loads of logs for our fire!
