Crag features

A hidden ravine of mainly high quality schist 2 mins off the west highland way (WHW) close to the Ptarmigan Lodge. The crag was "found" and subject to some limited development in early 2021. To date, one excellent highball has been climbed and a reasonable steep arête but there is scope for a decent circuit of other problems at various grades. An excellent Kyloe-In style jump-down wall of good quality, steep schist is untouched but sadly sits above a semi-permanent wet area that would need some sensitive platform work.

The crag sits in close proximity to Ptarmigan Lodge (private residence) and within the bounds of the Loch Lomond Woods Special Area of Conservation (SAC) so any visitors to the crag are politely encouraged to follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and treat this special place with the quiet respect it deserves.

Approach notes

Park at the Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) Ben Lomond car park (£3 fee at time of writing - April 2021). Walk north on the West Highland Way for about 20 minutes until the driveway to the Ptarmigan Lodge appears on the left. Continue on the WHW up the hill for another 5-10 mins until you get to the National Park sign indicating the end of the camping bye-law zone. Cross the ditch on the right and head up the hill through scattered birch and oak trees, following the burn upstream. The rock soon becomes visible on both sides of the ravine. Cross the boggy area via the fallen trees - Like schist off a shovel is the highball wall with the obvious slopey rail in the middle on the attractive south-west facing schist wave. There's scope for several other problems on this wave of schist, from easy warm-ups to further highballs.

No Access Issues

N/A - please note the proximity of private residence and ecologically sensitive nature of the crag.
