Tai Hang Slabs - Mari Kobayashi on Bomb the Base 5a © Francis Haden

Crag features

Laidback climbing on a pair of slabs perched high above Tai Hang with a wide- angle view of Victoria Harbour. Several routes provide just that right frame for harbour scape climbing images and is the place to watch the sunset over Hong Kong.

Approach notes

Take a taxi / Uber or private car to the very end of Mount Butler road and continue uphill along Sir Cecil’s Ride beyond the small river crossing (the stop point for Sunset Wall) and continue until the road bends to the right and a paved hiking path joins the road on the left. There are parking spaces for a few cars slightly further along the road.

Follow the hiking path downhill for approximately seven minutes and look for a dirt trail on the left where a radio mast can be seen on the right and a drainage culvert runs under the path just ahead. Follow the dirt trail onto a small concrete pad and turn left to walk down onto a large, easy-angled granite slab. Walk down the right side of the slab, through gaps in the bushes, to a small bay and place to drop bags. There are two abseil stations to the left when facing towards the city.
