Crag features
A relatively remote area with a series of small tributatires, seepage lines and short natural cuttings which form ice of varying interest. The routes aren't long (even by the standards of Peak winter routes) but there are quite a few options after a long freeze and the remote setting means you're likely to have the valley to yourself.
Approach notes
Approach either from Snake pass, initially along then road (as for Alport Castle) then along the valley bottom (can be tedious as the river meanders) or from the most westerly point of Howden resvoir over the top of the moor. With reasonable snow the approach from Howden could be accomplished with skis (4.5 mi each way) as grouse shooting tracks and drifts can be followed the entire way. If approacing from Howden a map, compass (and GPS) are strongly advised as the routes aren't obious from above.
