Crag features

Meall Dhamh is situated above the village of Crainlarich, the most prominent feature looking up from the village is Grey Heights which is the craggy north end of the ridge leading to Meall Dhamh which itself leads on to the top of the nearby Munro, Cruach Ardrain.

The climbs are on Meall Dhamh's east face, The north end of the ridge the crag it is broken up with ledges and smaller crags whilst moving toward the southern end the crags are more contiguous displaying obvious fault-lines and weaknesses. A standout feature of this area is the large number of very large boulders below the southern end of the crag and below the highest point of Meall Dhamh.

A number of winter routes have already been done but there is scope for alot more including some summer lines and some bouldering on some very large boulders.

Approach notes

A number of approaches are available either from the village itself or rom the A82 a couple of miles to the south before entering the village. The approach described below is probably the best. Starting at the east end of the village just at the 30mph signs there is a turning off to the right and marked as Forestry commission parking  and suitable for a small number of cars. From the car park follow a forestry road up, initially bearing right at a junction and then when near Grey Height go left at another junction.

Eventually you will come to a bridge at NN 39476 23497. 20m before the bridge and at the edge of the forest take to the hill following a faint path initially keeping to the edge of the forest. Once you have gained some height, a fence and style should come into view opposite the top of Grey Heights. Cross over the style and aim to keep high.. Walk along the foot of the ridge aiming for the southern end and some large boulders in the distance.

The main routes don't start revealing themselves until well along and when almost at the large boulders.  About 1hr 30mins to 2hrs.
