The crag itself is an SSSI - the rock itself, not the vegetation.
The rock is also extremely loose and extreme care must be taken when visiting. Dries fast.
[The SSSI status implies that you should think very hard before doing anything on this crag: you can be fined up to £20,000 for damaging the features that make an SSSI special; see http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-countryside/ewd/ewd08.htm - UKC Ed]
It has become an SSSI because the rock is very old [Sam 7/06; isn't all rock old? UKC Ed]
Owned by severn trent: they are very concerned about vandalism, less so about swimming and not at all about climbing.
However the landowner of the top is Delisle, and the gamekeeper of high shaprley has been known to turn people away.
No problem with access today, footpath runs alongside crag. althesin - 30/Mar/15 |

Made an attempt to access this crag today 10/02/08 from the north. I would consider looking elsewhere, Another SSSI site. Didnt get to see crag. Shame, as the setting looks great. kevlad - 10/Feb/08 |
