In the last couple of years a well used, fixed, abseil ring/wire has been installed. It's located above the Recess Routes. These classic Diffs (which were great for people learning to lead) will in the next become very smooth. Shame.

In summer, the steep hillside is covered in head height ferns and the approach in the picture is not obvious. After trying and failing to find this approach, we instead (after some food and a long cool drink!) returned to the scree, turned left near the the top of the scree instead of veering right, and followed a trail through the ferns up and over some fallen rocks I the direction of the slabs. Someone had helpfully left a large branch pointing up the path, but it's in the middle of the ferns so won't be seen until you are on it. Lovely views on a fine day. Protection is perhaps less than some would like, but the angles are relatively easy and the rock grippy with decent holds. Large boulders at the top for belays - take cord or slings for good thread anchors. We abseiled off, but we did see someone climb down solo.

Nice little slab but sadly very neglected and green these days. Some lines are inaccessible due to vegetation and further vegetation all along the top would make belays very difficult. Still worth visiting for an hour or two of soloing if you're in the area.

nice crag to visit if passing through or if youve got a few hours to spare in the evening. nice rock and nice climbing. ensure a bit of a breeze to keep away the midges. they seemed almost as bad as those further north!

Good climbing, poor protection, good belays at the top, poor walk in (definetly not for groups, kids or those who are not confident footed), little room for more than 4 people at once; so if you look up from the road and see some people there already probably not worth the bother. Good climbing thou.

went on uninspired day, recognise crag from photo below, although our approach was a not to be recommended mirror image of that shown. Grippy gabbro, shallow angle, some signs of use.

Sorry about that, got mixed up with the other crag on carrock methinks. Dunno if ive ever been here so take no notice of the last post.

Slabby climbing on a quiet gabbro crag. Well worth the effort if combining it with a bit of bouldering on the fellside boulders below the crag. Protection isnt always good but the climbs are all at friendly grades and it all adds to the character.
