Crag features

This little roadside crag gives plenty of sport routes in the low to mid-grades: a good warm-up for The Gwynt, or worthwhile as a convenient quick hit. Craig Arwahan is separated from the main escarpment by a narrow rift - the ungraciously named Turdon Gorge.

The crag has a northerly aspect: the front face gets some sun from around 7pm, but few rays ever penetrate the narrow passage behind - a good place to hide on a hot day. The front face is steep with vertical cracklines and challenging overlaps. No major seepage occurs given the detached nature of the buttress. The rock in the sheltered gorge is more compact, and can stay damp after poor weather.

Approach notes

From the Rest and Be Thankful cafe, walk 200m back down the road - the crag is located above the road about 50m after the driveway down to the lighthouse Hotel. To access The Turdon Gorge, scramble around right of the face (there is no access to the left).

Restricted Access

The main crag is subject to the same holiday restriction as the Pen Trwyn crags which sit above Marine Drive: No climbing before 6pm on Bank Holidays or during the summer holiday.

The Turdon Gorge is not subject to any restrictions - as it is hidden away. A good option for climbing above the road during the summer holidays.
