Crag features

Vestrahorn is famous for its prominent sharp peaks and rough terrain. The first routes that were climbed in Vestrahorn were multi - pitch trad routes. The oldest route in the area is the route up Leitishamar from 1979. The goal of that trip was to climb Kambhorn, but as the team started in fog they did not end up on the right peak.

There is excellent bouldering on the gabbro blocks below the mountains, there are a lot of problems climbed already but there is almost endless possibility for more. See https://www.klifur.is/crag/vestrahorn for more info and good topos.

Approach notes

Approaching the crag is an easy walk along the beach to the boulders and then up a scree slope to the relevant climb. It is sometimes possible to get permission to drive across the beach, but shouldn't be taken as given.

Almost all approaches to climbs on Vestrahorn start with a long grade 3 scramble to the first pitch. For more information on individual climbs please look at https://www.klifur.is/crag/vestrahorn
