Hill features

A minor prominence on the grassy ridge between Zindlenpitz 2097m to the north and the Rädertenstock 2294m to the south, the Lachenstock 2026m is much less frequented than the popular, higher and easier Zindlenspitz, the nearer of the two aforementioned peaks. For the competent scrambler it is reached quite easily from the north or the west, with little actual scrambling. The southerly part of the ridge towards the Rädertenstock is known as the Rädertengrat with a summit at 2053m, and is more of a rough walk than a scramble.

The views from the summit are stupendous: to the north to the nearby peaks and over the Zürichsee, to the south-east to the massive Glärnisch, to the south to the multiple peaks of central Switzerland and to the west down to the Wägitalersee.

While the ascent from the valley is c.1100m, the nearby peaks along the ridge (most obviously to the north) can be visited without excessive extra height gain or distance.

Approach notes

There are various parking spots on the east side of the Wägitalersee, which will be filled quickly on a fine day, or the Postbus to Innerthal at the northern end of the lake will allow the legs a few km of warm up along the road before beginning to ascend. Two different paths from the valley (pts. 931m, 922m) allow to reach the idyllic farmstead at Aberliboden, from where the routes from the north and west continue. If approaching from the south over the Rädertengrat there is parking around pt. 918 near the end of the lake, or further round on the other side of the lake.
