Climbs 5
Rocktype Sandstone (soft)
Altitude 83m a.s.l
A large roofed boulder hanging on the East bank of the river. Needs a sustained period of no rainfall before it can be climbed with dry feet. Gives some powerful straight ups, and an excellent lip traverse.
The quickest way down is to take the turn off for Drumlanrig Castle from the A76 a few miles north of Thornhill. Park where the North and South slip roads meet and head directly down the steep slope. Follow the river North for a hundred yards to the big bend where you will see the boulder. 5 mins. For first time visitor it may be preferable to follow the castle drive across the bridge and park for the river walk. Follow the path along the west side of the river a few minutes and you'll see the boulder and can check the river height.
