Rocktype Sandstone (soft)
Altitude 90m a.s.l
Faces NE
This crag seems unjustly forgotten. There are a number of obvious additional lines, 8 - 10 metres. Some dubious rhododendron roots which need pulling on and ferocious stinging nettles at the bottom, but a nice picnic spot as well.
The routes are cracks, and there is one obvious flake line. These are more or less dirty and need treating with some care.
The rock is very soft sandstone, and has minimal 'skin'. Largely unclimbable due to poor rock quality.
From Balcombe Station, head south down Church Road for about 600m to Kemps Farm. Turn right (southwest) on to a footpath into Pilstye Wood. Follow the path uphill and just below the hillcrest the crag is on the right.
No obvious issues.
Went there a few weeks ago, rock is surprisingly solid. Soloed the easiest crack on the right. alexbankier - 23/Jun/20 |
