Altitude 521m a.s.l
Faces all
A promontory above the forest. Mainly good rock but with a few 'snappy' holds (gneiss). Amenable grades, up to 50m and cracking views. Crag faces E, S, and W so sun or shade can normally be found.
The local guide discourages lowering off routes on the W face and abseiling off the longer routes when busy. It is easy to walk back down.
From the main Strasbourg - Colmar roaad turn W through Chatenois and then take the D424 to Thanville. Continiue R through Zinken on the D253. The road (now heading E) comes to a junction. Take the R fork and almost immediately follow a very minor road R into the forest. Follow this road for about 2 miles to a large parking/picnic area. Park!
Walk up the tarmac road to a wooden shelter - the Kaesemarkt. Turn R here and follow the track which contours the hill. Eventually this pulls up to a junction on a col. Take the track to the R whichcontours acrossthe ridge side (going up the crest of the ridge will take you to the viewpoint of Rocher du Hagelstein. Eventually smaller paths head up to the obvious rocks. The whole walk is pretty well signposted. Allow 40 minutes.
