Crag features

Garganta d'Isbert comprises a deep gorge with a disused dam wall across it’s narrowest point. The left wall towers above the river bed and is over 100m high. This wall has a walkway cut into it leading to the dam wall. This makes entry on to the towering wall difficult as the roof prevents access. The right side of the gorge is much shorter and the rock is in places very smooth and completely featureless. The climbing is currently mainly on the right wall starting from the base on the gorge.

The gorge itself faces south but the lower walls remain in the shade for most of the day. This is a good venue for the hotter days during the summer months.

Approach notes

From the A7 motorway Orba can be reached from junction 63 (Benissa) passing through Jalon and Alcalali or by taking junction 62 in the north (Pedreguer). On reaching the outskirts of the town take the by-pass and the turning to Benimaurell. After 1km you reach a T-junction. Turn right down the hill. After a few bends there is a tarmaced road on the left. Take this and follow it to the end where there are two houses. Park here.

Follow the track pass to the left of the large house and go through the tunnel. The gorge is directly ahead. For the routes on the right side take the path descending to the dry river bed and walk to the base of the routes. The wall is quite pleasant and takes less than 10 minutes.

For the routes above the gangway continue along the path to its end and climb over the fence.
