The potential of the area is huge with thousands of granite boulders strewn over the high plateau of the Serra da Estrela. Whilst quite a few problems have been recorded in selected sectors, there is an enormous amount of exploring to do.
The boulders tend to be very rounded and rough granite, with some being pretty highball.
Approach notes
From Covilhã, head up to the Serra on the N339 towards Penhas da Saúde. Pedro do Orso is signposted on the road to the right, approximately 7km distance from the city.
