Howe Sound is the most southerly fjord in North America, a natural wonder of the Pacific carved by the last ice age into the spectacular sight it is today. The climbing is centred around Ocean's Wall, the 200m high wall located 1km from the mouth of the Squamish River. To its left and right are the fine single pitch crags of The Spawning Grounds and The Yacht Club.
Approach notes
The crags are approached by water. Almost every type of small vessel has been used to reach the crags: sailboats, fishing boats, motor boats, canoes, kayaks, and even standup paddleboards. Getting across the upper basin of Howe Sound is not something to take lightly in the teeth of high winds, strong tides and big currents swirling around.
For larger vessels, there is a public launc ramp just to the south of the Squamish Yacht Club at the edge of downtown Squamish.
