Rocktype Sandstone (hard)
Altitude 331m a.s.l
Faces E
An old sandstone quarry sitting on the side of Whitfield Brow and above the Bollihope valley.
The quarry spoil heaps are clearly visible however the main faces can't be seen. The rock is good rough sandstone but some bits are blockly and need this to be cleared off. There are no belays (stakes) above the crag so the longer lines are still to be climbed. There are a number of buttresses ranging from slabby to gently overhanging that reach up to 10+m in height.
There's some bouldering that can be done or by soloing the shorter routes.
Plenty of potential for the adventourus new router.
From Frosterely take the B6278 passing Hill End and drop down into the valley. The crag is visible on the left above a row of houses.
Take the road leading to these houses and park on the bend where a track runs up the valley. Follow this for 30m then cut over the grass to gain the same track. Follow this until you can scramble up the left side of the spoil heaps and enter the quarry.
The is located on CROW land so access shouldn't be an issue.
