Futago-yama (Mt Futago) has one of largest limestone buttress in Japan, 40-50m high wall stretches about 200m. This 90-130 degree wall attracts hard climbers. There are about 160 routs. There are only 8 routes 5.9 or below. 5.10s 29 routes, 5.11s 86 routes, 5.12s 44 routes, 5.13s 13 routes and 5.14s 2 routes. Flat Mountain (5.14d/15a) ascended by Yuji Hirayama, was the hardest sport route in Japan for 11 years until 2017.  Among the hard single routes, Futagoyama Central Arete (Chuoryo) is well-known as recommended for one of the first multi-pitch experiences.

Approach notes

 

Access:  Car: Off National Route 299 at Shigazaka-toge.   Public transport :  Seibu Chichibu Station (Seibu Chichibu Line) →bus 33 min→ Ogano Ogano →bus 30 min→ Sakamoto.

Approch : About 10-30 min from the car park, 30-50 min from the bus stop.
