Crag features

The Chief is a monolith with climbing on all sides. The east is the 'Backside' and is the least-travelled region. In part because it is less visible and, also the approaches here can be long. This is relentlessly physical terrain, with steep slopes, heavy forests, and a chaos of craggy undulations on alpine ridges. There are even two small glaciers.

The region covers three areas: the Chief's Three Peaks, Upper Olesen and the Gondola Area. The Three Peaks is the hidden east side of the Chief and yields over 100 single pitch and 30 multi-pitch climbs. Upper Olesen is the great basin behind the Chief and Slhanay. The Gondola Area includes the short climbs near to the Gondola off-load station.

All routes are described from left-to-right as in line with UKC, and thus the order of routes and crags may not always be identical to the guidebooks.
