Rocktype Ice
Altitude 2334m a.s.l
Faces NE
A single wide cascade approximately 25m high with bolted chain anchors at the top and some fixed gear (at least 1 bolt). Lots of line choice is available and the ice fall is generally steepest on the left and easiest on the right. Depending on build up it is possible to top rope the routes on a single 50m rope, although a 60m rope will give more breathing space!
There also appears to be at leaat 1 via ferrata route at the crag, and potentially summer rock routes, however no information on these is currently available.
The ice can be seen from the centre of Val Thorens if it is formed. if on Skis take the cascade chairlift up to the top where you will pass the ice on the right. Either ski down the green piste and approach from the top, absailing off of the chain anchors (the anchor will need to be extended if absailing on 1 50m rope, however tat is often left in situ by the local guides), or ski down the gully skiers right of the ice into the base of the crag. If approaching on foot, walk up the side of the ski pistes.
