Crag features

A dome of granite slabs in a stunning location with several outlying outcrops.

All the bolts have been updated in the Summer of 2019. There are now many new routes on the periphery rocks. Unfortunately some of the name plates screwed to the base seem to have been mucked about with and swapped around on the more accessible sectors!

A guide book to this crag was available: Top' Allier (2009) by Marc Burger. Much of the book was availble for free in online print outs during the noughties and it probably still is if you trawl the net. Local tourist information (Vichy Montagne) suggests it is no longer available but will print crag topos for you!

Full Topo available here as a PDF:

Approach notes

Approaching Saint-Nicholas-des-Biefs from the west take a right turn (south) just before the village (signposted for the crag and the hamlet of Boffet).  Follow the signs to arrive at a large parking area with toilet block to the right of the road. Probably best to park above the toilet block rather than down on the meadows.

From the toilet block walk down through the woods for 200m to arrive at a small 'col' between two outcrops. (Rochers Boffet and Jouanin)  Follow the path and steps down L. to arrive below the Rocher Principal.

Shrine is round to the R with routes apparently starting from the steps to it.
