Crag features

Bolted via cordata route 5 min walk from roadside parking.

Option to do a standard route (3+) or more advanced variation (4+).

Similar to a via ferrata route with rungs and steps, but no wires - only spiral bolts. A 35m rope is therefore REQUIRED

Excellent views across valley and to Mont Pourri glaciers.

Take (ideally minimum 35m) rope, sling lanyards for belay, prussik/abseil kit, belay plate/know how to use italian hitch! A Via Ferrata lanyard and quickdraws NOT required (though 1 or 2 QDs can be added to metal rungs if you wish).

Descent signed from top of route, walk west for two minutes, then turn back east. Take left fork down to rocky, forested streambed and traverse out above big crag over meadows to road. If you miss the path to the stream bed, you can carefully traverse above the crag to rejoin the path (don't be tempted to descend scree-path between crags!). Descend road back to parking (or join footpath direct to village).

The village of le Crot has a traditional restuarant (without electricity) serving drinks and excellent local blueberry tarts.

A good introduction to sport climbing for non-climbers. Also good practice for moving together for longer alpine routes.

See topo from Tarentaise guides for more info.

Approach notes

Drive through Le Crot village to parking on first big switchback, where there is an information board (not to be confused with parking for Falaise du Pre climbing area, which is before the village, where there is also a copy of the via cordata info board).

The start of the route is a 5 minute walk west along the base of the crag on a singletrack path (a bit scrambly). Start in a small clearing with obvious bolts above.
