Crag features

Situated high up on the slopes of Mardale Ill bell overlooking small water the crag is quite exposed and can be windy even when everywhere else seems calm.  This is reflected in the naming of the routes, however the crag is worth a visit if only to explore a lesser trodden area of the lakes for climbers.  The rock is reasonably solid in nature but does have a covering of lichen (easy to remove with a brush or a rub from hands or boots).  There is potential for further development on the crag and the small number of routes is not a reflection on the available climbing.

There are several potential 'buttresses' or faces, all of the recorded climbs are on the most obvious, clean right hand buttress.  Solid belays can be found by making use of a large detached block situated in the heather on top of the crag.  Descent can be made either left or right or even off over the top to continue to the summit of Mardale Ill Bell.
