The Pizzo Scalino is a beautiful pyramid of rocks and ice, well known, certainly needs no introduction. It is probably the most popular peak of the Lombard Bernina, frequented in particular during the ski-mountaineering season, but also in the summer with several routes to the summit.
Access is gained from the Camp Moro Dam at the top of Chiesa Valmalenco, about 15km from Sondrio.
The routes are achievable in a day and there are many refugios or good parking for vans at the Dam.
A marked path takes to Cristina hut ( an accomodation available for a 2 days-trip), close to magnificent Alpe Prabello (m.2100).
From here, a path takes you through large meadows to a steep slope and the summit of Cornetto (m.2800) near Scalino glacier.
Now put your crampons on to traverse the glacier to then gain the SE ridge of the mountain, from this point some easy scrambling will get you to the top.
