Crag features

Gravvikheia is a beautiful mountain crag set against the inlets and islands of outer Trondheimsfjord, with stunning views over Hitra, Ørlandet and into Verrafjorden. The rock quality is fantastic with 2-3 pitch slab routes following crack systems, shelves and flakes up solid granite gneiss that has excellent friction. Protection is typically abundant in the lower pitches, however it is often found to be sparse towards the top out, with porly protected and delicate slab climbing as the angle eases (this is especially so on the left end of the crag).

The crag is very similar to the nearby Kaldklova, featuring a number of moderately graded routes. It should be noted that the grading here is typical Norwegian 'fjellgradering' (mountain grades), so expect routes to be heavier than elsewere. There are also no bolted belays on the wall and all protection is natural. There is one rapell anchor at the top of the route 'Heteslag' which will get you down to a solid tree, that can then be used to descend the rest of the wall. 60m ropes are advised for climbing here.

Approach notes

From the Rv710 (the main road from Ørkanger to Agdenes) take a left at Selva onto the 6422 and follow this around the northern side of Storvatnet along the coast. At Hopavågen turn left just after the small bridge and continue on the 6422 untill you reach the bend at Gravvikbukta. There is a private road that leads to the crag with a gate that can be locked without warning. Do not drive beyond the gate there is a small place to park just next to it. Follow the track for ca. 200 m then walk left up into the valley. There is a small footpath that leads of the track to the left that is the hiking path upto the top Gravvikheia, the main wall of the crag can be seen on the left.

No Access Issues

No access issues known at present. No bolting is allowed on this crag, following local ethics for mountain rock routes. The access road to the crag is private and has a gate that can/ will be locked without warning. Park at the small parking area before the gate.
