Crag features
The crag is located in the west side of the island of Zakynthos. It's part of a dale which crosses the countryside near the vilages Koiliomenos and Agios Leontas. The name of the crag comes from the nearby island of Korakonisi, whose impressive shape and unique beauty attracts the interest of many travellers.
The rock is of very good quality limestone. It has a characteristic red and yellow color and a varied and intense relief. A 60m climbing rope and 15 quickdraws is all you need to climb the crag's routes.
The rock face has a southeast orientation and there is shade till noon.
Approach notes
The crag is about 25km from Zakynthos town. Drive from Zakynthos town to Lithakia village and from there to the villages Koiliomenos and Agios Leontas. After Koiliomenos village and before the Agios Leontas village, there is a road sign to Korakonisi Island. Turn left and after 5km turn right on the dirt road. After 1km the dirt road starts to be very rocky. Park there on the side of the road, walk for 200m and then enter the olive grove at your left. Walk through the olive grove and follow the little path in the end of the grove. The vegetetion is low and stone cairns leads you to the crag after 15 min of walking.
Access Advice
In summer time is very common to meet snakes when you walk in the countryside of Zakynthos island. They are harmless and run away when they meet with people. There are no dangerous snakes with poison in Zakynthos island.
The path is really hard to find because it is grown over with all kind of thorns.... short pants and sandals are out of the question. We couldn't find the crag at all, we searched for almost an hour through the thorny nonvisible path... the Korakonisi swim was the only comfort.
