This peak, which is located southwest of the Cime du Gélas and which is clearly visible from the approach path in France, is best known for the traverse of its west frontier ridge followed by a descent of the northeast ridge. There are two faces, the northwest Italian face and the French south face; the former provides the hardest route(s), the latter provides both the normal route and the best descent. The rock is generally good.
The most accessible approach is made from the Madone de Fenestre hamlet by following the large path towards the Lac de Fenestre. After about 50' at a large isolated boulder, follow a smaller path to the right which leads up and towards the Cime Saint Robert ridge. Just before reaching the Lac Mort, climb a small valley northwest which leads to the Pas du St.Robert where the route starts below the first gendarme. The Italian approach is made from the Dada Soria hut which is accessible on foot from Entracque.
