Etymology:

After Lars Johan Hierta, 1801-72, Swedish writer, politician and patron of science. His foundations made large grants to Swedish exploration of Spitsbergen.

Approach notes

The summit can be accessed from Longyearbreen or from Nordenskiöldfjellet, following the southwest ridge.

No access issues with regards to climbing this summit. Despite its proximity to Longyearbyen, safety measures and a weapon are essential!
