Crag features
Occasionally visited by dog walkers and youths, this small water filled quarry offers some seclusion and a nice spot for a picnic. Should you also bring your climbing gear along, there are a couple of low-grade, indifferent routes for you to try.
Looking down the length of Blue Water from the entrance of the quarry, you can’t help but notice its most prominent feature, the vegetated head wall at the far end of the pond. This is home to the most adventurous challenge available. There are also a couple of smaller climbs on the back side of the small promontory on the right-hand side of the pond.
All the routes can be reached by ascending the slope to the right of the promontory, staying inside the fence and then once safe to do so, scramble down a small chute roughly equidistant between promontory and head wall. Alternatively, you can take a low scramble (involves crawling) around the promontory on its left-hand side just above the water line.

Bold head games and low technicality on predominantly face climbs of a limited height.
Conditions
The headwall suffers from seepage, and rather damp anyway being of a north-easterly aspect. The promontory is much better in this regard, as it is somewhat detached from the surrounding hillside and south west facing. The quality of the rock is a mixed bag and should be treated with respect.
Approach notes
See maps. The quarry lies on the hill of Healey Nab, just east of Chorley. To reach it from the M61 (Junction 8) follow the A674 towards Blackburn, turning right at the first set of traffic lights, onto the B6228 towards Chorley. Follow this until you see a mini roundabout at the Lock and Quay pub. Just before it, turn left following a sign to Heapey and Anglezarke. Continue along this road until you have the opportunity to turn right and follow another sign to Anglezarke. Travel down this road passing a left-hand turn signposted White Coppice, and a left-hand corner with Cliff Farm on the left and a public footpath on the right. Limited parking is available after the last house on the left. Walk back up the road and take the previously mentioned footpath. Follow this uphill past old stone gateposts and take the second minor path on the right, and follow this into the quarry.
There is also limited parking a little further down the road on the bend at the north end of Anglezarke Reservoir. From here, follow the public footpath there uphill, over a stile, through a field, over another stile, turn right along a track and take the second minor path on the left before encountering stone gateposts and a bend right. Follow this into the quarry.
