Rocktype Basalt
Faces SW
Similar to a short gritstone edge such as Shipley Glen. Bluestone bouldering on well featured quarried basalt amongst trees surrounding a lake. The area is an attractive nature reserve, in the centre of a residential area, but was a quarry and later a landfill. Just a few km outside the CBD.
No specific access agreement in this local nature reserve. Nothing should be done to upset the rangers, locals or park users. Climbing is not widely understood as a legitimate practice hereabouts. Stony Rises is not the recognised name of this park and bouldering has been pracised here for some years by the few who have been prepared to scour the neighbourhood in a city not known for many possibilities on rock. The inclusion here is intended just to encourage people who are keen to look just that little bit closer, and when they find something, tread sensitively so as not to jeopardise the future of such secret gems. Keep a low profile. Don 't leave too much trace and things will be groovy!
