La Glaciere crag in the Vercors © Alan James

Crag features

A steep wall split into two sections with rounded bulging rock on its upper left giving short pwoerful climbs, and a continuous overhanging wall down and right with a set of harder routes. Very reminiscent of a Yorkshire crag like the smaller upper sections of Gordale. The epitome of NOT a holiday crag - every route is a battle and the crags are savage!

Local guidebook says it is:

"a 35m west-facing slab, at 1800m altitude, 20 minutes from the parking and with a grade range of 5b to 8a+".

It is in fact a 10m to 15m overhanging wall, facing southwest, at an altitude of 1500m, 7 minutes from the parking and with a grade range of 5a to 7c+ (although I suspect the route given 5a is in fact quite a bit harder than that).

Approach notes

From the parking in the Ski village of Fond d'Urle (very small, can't miss the parking), check the round walk advertised on the board and head to number 2 on this which is called 'La Glacière'. This involves folowing the path southwards from the corner of the parking from 300m to where there is a gate on the left with a sign 'Sentier du Karst'. Go through the gate and head directly leftwards then up and over a small rise to the cave which is almost invisible until you are right over it.
