Thimbleby Crag, near Over Silton village. panoramic shot © BAdhoc

Crag features

A quiet crag in the woods near the A19. Previously buried in the woods, wiuth all the greenery that implies, the forest below the crag has recently ben felled so the crag is now open and gets plenty of sun, so routes are now much cleaner.

The main remaining hazards are very soft unstable ground (due to old leaf litter and pine needles) both below and above the crag.

Restricted Access

The crag was previously sorounded by trees and prone to dampness, forestry clearance has opened it up with an improvement in suitability for climbing. The crag rises to 13m and combined with suspect rock and steep ground below the crag, routes can feel serious for their grade. It has seen an increase in climbing activity in recent years with a number of new lines being claimed.

sheltered in trees, but there are no slabs. Good cam and nut placements. A little tricky to find
